Christopher Henderson’s contemporary metal sculptures begin with materials more often associated with industry than fine art. Stainless steel, aluminium and Corten steel are shaped, textured and polished in his Hull studio to create bespoke artworks that bring energy, reflection and movement into modern spaces.
With more than two decades of experience in engineering and fabrication, Henderson approaches sculpture with a deep understanding of how metal behaves. He uses processes including TIG welding, plasma cutting, mechanical slip rolling and specialist polishing to produce flowing sculptural forms and abstract wall pieces. Although the materials are strong and heavy, the finished works often appear light, dynamic and almost weightless.
A key part of Henderson’s style is his use of etched textures and reflective surfaces. These finishes interact with natural and artificial light, meaning each artwork can appear different depending on the time of day and the space around it. This quality makes his sculptures particularly suited to residential interiors, corporate environments, hotels and architectural settings where artwork is expected to create a lasting visual impact.
